Rob Schremp Centre
Schremp is a wizard with the puck as a playmaker and stickhandler. He Loves to curl with the puck and find teammates open for a pass. Rob is an excellent passer on his forehand, he can thread the needle or make nice saucer passes but tends to make few passes on his backhand as he likes to curl back and stay on his forehand. Schremp has a wicked and accurate wrist shot in close and is very good at finding the corner or top shelf of the net. Schremp's slapshot is world class in velocity and accuracy. His straight line skating is average, but he has an excellent first step and accelerates well out of the corner on the cycle. Rob knows that he needs to improve strength and defensive zone play for the next level.
Edmonton fully expects Schremp to be a first line player for them in the coming years. But will he spend his first pro season with the Oilers or on the farm?
Martin Handzal Centre
Hanzal is big centerman who’s a good skater, with a decent speed and a nice fluid and powerful stride. He’s good in the face-off circle; he has good hands and great puck handling skills. He has above average offensive instincts, and has a good understanding of the game. He needs to work on his defensive play. Standing at 6’5, he is extremely strong, but still needs to fill out his frame to be able to endure the rigors of the North American style of hockey.
Hanzal is a couple years from making his NHL debut. For the 2006-07 season, he’ll be gearing up for the WHL, where he’ll play for Brent Sutter and the Red Deer Rebels.
Dustin Kohn Def
Kohn’s a really skilled offensive player, skates well. I think there are some holes in him. I don’t see him in the second round. I just don’t see a huge battle level in this guy.
He’s a hard guy to put a value on. He has great skills but he doesn’t play as tough as I’d like him to. He’s not that big but he’s a great skater and he’s an offensive threat. He’ll probably go fairly high in the draft I would think.
Patrick Davis LW
Davis had always had all the tools to be an offensive force, but it wasn’t until this past season that he finally began to realize his vast potential. Big, quick and possessing a great shot with a quick release, Davis is similar in some ways to fellow Devils prospect Tallackson. Both have unique size/skill sets and have the ability to dominate when they are on top of their game. Expect the Devils to give Davis plenty of time to adjust to the pro game as he goes into his rookie season with Lowell and he will likely need a couple full seasons in the AHL before challenging for full-time NHL duty.
Why Could Be Higher: Has the skills to be a top scorer.
Why Could Be Lower: Can he translate his success last season to the pro level?
NHL Upside: Top six sniper.
Ryan Maki RW
Excellent size and has the potential to become a power forward. He is extremely good around the net and is willing to pay the price in front of it to score a goal or make the play. Maki uses his large frame very well and can deliver some punishing checks. He plays both ends of the ice quite well, and his defensive game has improved nicely this season. Maki has shown willingness to block shots as well. He has a great work ethic. While Maki possesses good on ice vision, he needs to continue improving on his decision-making and ability to read plays.
Vojta D
An offensive minded blueliner, Vojta makes use of his ability to join the rush and support the offense. He is a crafty passer who is adept at creating good plays. He is a solid skater with above-average straightaway speed and decent first-step quickness. His lateral movement is adequate. Vojta is willing to let his slap shot go, but has to learn how to keep it lower on the ice. A player with solid determination, Vojta can lead by example. He only needs to play all of his games at full intensity and determination.
J.D Watt RW
Watt is a prototypical Sutter player who is known as a grinder and an agitator.
